Description:
The waltz is a mirror of the evolution of 19th century European society. --- Nikolaus ArnoncourtHas there ever been a waltz or polka so wild, exciting, and fun? In June 2011, Arnoncourt and the Vienna Konzentus Musicus presented for the first time the dances, waltzes, and polkas of Lanner and Strauss I. This album is an exact recording of the program that was performed on a tour that began in Vienna and continued on to Dortmund and Cologne. Although born in Berlin, Arnoncourt was an Austrian by birth, and he had his own particular way of playing the waltzes and polkas, including those of Strauss. In terms of recordings, starting with a waltz and polka collection with the Concertgebouw Orchestra (recorded in 1985, including the original version of "Pizzicato Polka"), "Die Fledermaus" based on a Dutch Music Festival production, and the complete "Baron Gypsy" (1994, Vienna Symphony), for which he created his own performance version, In 2001 and 2003, he appeared in the New Year's Concerts of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. This album is the fruit of Arnoncourt's performance practice, and the album title "Walzer Revolution" suggests that waltzes and polkas are not merely shallow works colored with beautiful melodies, but also have important cultural historical and musicological implications. Arnoncourt's idea was that waltzes and polkas are not merely shallow works of beautiful melodies, but have important cultural historical and musicological implications. With the full cooperation of the Vienna Musikverein Arhiv, we not only used scores based on original sources such as autographs and first editions whenever possible, but also the instruments specified by the composer, thereby restoring the fine and lively sound of the original orchestration, which had been obscured by later arrangements. The composer's use of the instruments specified by the composer, and the use of the composer's own orchestration, which had been masked by later arrangements, brought back to life for the first time in modern times. The result is an album full of exquisite enjoyment that brings into sharp focus the comical and humorous side of Arnoncourt, which is hard to imagine from his guileless gaze. The "Radetzky March," a staple of the New Year's Concert, is performed not in its usual version but in its first draft. This piece was performed at the beginning of the 2001 New Year's Concert at which Arnoncourt appeared, and it was a surprise to the audience. Mozart's Six German Dances K.571 No. 6 was performed as an encore on the last day of Arnoncourt's last concert in Japan, and left a strong impression. With the exception of three pieces, this was Arnoncourt's first recording. This was also the first time that the Konzentus Musicus recorded music after Mozart. Sony Music
