World premiere recording of a visionary opera composed by Caccini's daughter, Francesca. This is the world premiere recording of the only surviving opera written by Francesca Caccini, daughter of Giulio Caccini (1545-1618), an Italian Renaissance and Baroque composer famous for his beautiful "Ave Maria" and other works. Francesca Caccini (1587-1641) is considered the first female composer to write an opera. This opera was commissioned by Maria Magdalena von Estereich, wife of Cosimo II of the Medici family. Francesca was born in Florence in 1587, and was one of the most famous Florentine Medici musicians of the 17th century, a singer and lute player, but also a talented composer. However, the opera "The Rescue of Ruggiero" was first performed in 1625 because the score was printed, and the same year the score was given to the Polish prince Władysław, who had it performed again in Warsaw in 1628.Paul van Nervel and the Huelgas Ensemble recreated the lost instrumental parts and other parts based on the style of the time, and performed it in its first complete version in 2016. This is a live recording of this performance. In recreating and revising the work, emphasis was placed on the multifaceted influence of the Renaissance and the transition period from Renaissance to Baroque. The opera is also given a dramatic impression through the unique colorful instrumental accompaniment for each role, such as strings for Alcina and trombones for Nettuno. This limited edition will come with a 100-page libretto in Italian, German, English, and French.
