This is a collection of works by Satie, marking the second solo album by Spanish pianist José Oquínena—born in 1971—on Sony Classical. Oquinenna studied piano and chamber music at the conservatory in his hometown of San Sebastián, graduating with highest honors, and went on to further his studies at the Madrid Conservatory. He subsequently attended master classes with Zimmerman, Gerber, and Pogorelich at the Juilliard School, and also studied under Maria Kurcio, a renowned pupil of Schnabel. Based in Spain, he is a highly accomplished pianist who continues to perform at music festivals and in major cities across the country. It is said that Satie was clearly satirizing the “fashion for Spanish-style music” that was prevalent in France at the time. While acknowledging this interpretation, Okinena strips away any superfluous nuances to directly bring out the charm of Satie’s music. Sony Music
