This is the first transfer to Sony Classical of Swedish clarinetist Martin Frest, known as "the wizard of the clarinet. True to the connotations of the words root, origin, and origin, "Roots" is a sonic journey through time and space, tracing the origins and development of European music over a thousand years, beginning with Hildegard in the 10th century and ending with the works of Hilleborg composed this year. The "Roots" premiered in Stockholm on December 3, 2015, and in concert, Fresto not only plays the clarinet, but also takes on the role of conductor, dancer, actor, and producer all by himself, making this a work that truly brings out the best in him. The album begins with Gregorian chant and music by Hildegard von Bingen that is rooted in religion, then moves on to Telemann, Krusel, Schumann, Bartok, Piazzolla, and others, adding secular elements as it goes down through time.All of the works are inspired by dances and folk songs. The works are diverse in terms of composition and sound, including solo works for clarinet, works for clarinet and orchestra, and arrangements with chorus. Like the minstrels who once traveled through Europe, captivating people with the music they sang and played, Frest has entrusted his clarinet with his own songs, and with this new album, "Roots," he asks again what music is all about. The inspiration for this album comes from my thoughts on how dance music, folk music, and religious music, the origins of our music, can develop and open new doors for the future," says Fresto. There are many different instrumental combinations here, whether in their original form, newly arranged, or newly composed for this album.All the songs are tied together and played in sequence. The themes transform throughout the album, the music changes, evolves, evolves, yet maintains a constant tempo and embraces all elements.
