Description:
Stadfeldt, the “modern-day ambassador of Bach.” His performances of a series of Bach works—including the “Goldberg Variations”—are unshakably masterful in both technique and interpretation, and have undoubtedly established a world entirely distinct from the tradition built by Gould. While Stadtfeld demonstrates solid musicality in his repertoire beyond Bach—including works by Beethoven, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, and Wagner—this release presents a pairing of Schumann’s “Piano Concerto” and “Scènes d’Enfants.” Speaking of his Schumann recordings, he released “Colorful Miniatures and Toccata” in 2006; however, that album served to add color to his Bach works and was not treated as a “main course” like this one (though the freshness of that Schumann was also exquisite). This time, the “Concerto” is the main course, while “Scènes d’Enfance” serves as a sort of dessert platter, so to speak. As always, we hear his crisp articulation, warm tone, and emotional expression that fully brings out the singing quality in every corner of the melody. It is a beautiful, exquisite Schumann performance that gently seeps into the depths of the listener’s heart. Sony Music
