This is the first solo album by Robin Johansen, an American soprano who has made a name for herself as a lyric soprano, particularly in Baroque and Classical-era operas. Johansen made her debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 2002 and, the following year in 2003, made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival as the Shepherdess in *Tannhäuser*. In 2005, she became a member of the Leipzig Opera, and since 2008, through her intensive performances in Baroque and Classical-era operas, she has earned high acclaim as an indispensable soprano in that field. This album combines solo cantatas and opera arias by Antonio Caldara (1670–1736), and all of the works are world premiere recordings. The rich emotional nuances embedded in the works of Caldera—who was active in Rome and Vienna and is known as a major composer of the 18th-century Venetian school—are skillfully brought to life by Johansen’s beautiful voice. Conductor Alessandro De Marchi transcends the boundaries between modern and period instruments and is active around the world. Since 2009, he has served as music director of the Innsbruck Early Music Festival, succeeding René Jacobs, and has toured with European opera houses to Japan, Canada, Australia, and other destinations.
