This 3-CD set includes all studio recordings by Bill Evans' golden piano trio that gave birth to one of the most popular masterpieces in jazz history, Waltz for Debby. Includes all studio recordings by one of the most influential piano trios in jazz history, the Bill Evans Trio with Scott LaFaro (b) and Paul Motian (ds). Included are the critically acclaimed studio albums Portraits in Jazz and Explorations. Also included are 26 incredible alternate takes & outtakes, 17 of which are previously unreleased material. Audio restoration by Plangent Processes and newly remastered by Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer Paul Blakemore. By the end of 1959, the legendary Bill Evans Trio had joined bassist Scott LaFaro and drummer Paul Motian. The trio established a new, interactive style of playing, a technique in which all instruments assumed melodic responsibility and functioned as equal voices; the tragic death of Ruffalo in a highway accident in July 1961 led to the breakup of this groundbreaking unit.Before disbanding, however, the band recorded four albums, two studio recordings and two live recordings at the Village Vanguard shortly before the bassist's death, and although they were active for only less than two years, they continue to influence subsequent pianists, bassists, and drummers.
