This is the long-awaited second album from Nubia Garcia, a saxophonist and composer who is a leading figure in the London jazz scene, marking her first release in four years. As the title suggests, *Odyssey* is an album that feels like an ambitious and epic journey. In a male-dominated music scene, Nubia has established a firm foothold and has invited talented Black female musicians such as Esperanza, Richie Savelight, and Georgia Anne Muldrow to join her on this adventure. Following her previous album *Source*, she has once again enlisted Kwes as the album’s producer. Nubia speaks about the overarching theme of this project as follows: “It expresses truly walking my own path and trying to cast aside all the external noise about how things ‘should’ be,” she comments. “It is also inspired by the ever-changing adventure of life and the twists and turns of living.” Musically, Nubya handled string orchestration for the first time, rediscovering her love for composition and meticulously researching a vast array of orchestral sounds. Her wide-ranging soundscape, which spans jazz, classical, R&B, and dub, has become even bigger and bolder in this highly anticipated release.
