Description:
Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Devon Gilfillian releases his second album. The album traverses genres such as soul, hip-hop, R&B, and rock, and was produced by Jeremy Rutito (Need to Breathe, Joy Oladipo). Produced by Jeremy Rutito (Need to Breathe, Joy Oladokun), Devon Gilfillian sings about his life as an African American artist living in 21st century America. The 10 original tracks on the album (all co-written by Gilfillian) are about fairness, fighting for what you believe in, and love, finding it, making it, and pouring it into every aspect of your life. Recording began in the midst of the Corona pandemic and the widening political fissures in the United States, Gilfillian built the album on the familiar and simple sources of inspiration: Marvin Gaye's music, love, therapy, and his cats.Growing up in Philadelphia, USA, Gilfillian says that discovering legends of his father's generation of musicians, such as Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, and The Temptations, was as exciting as discovering new sounds from a generation close to his own. Discovering legends of his father's generation, such as Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, and the Temptations, was just as exciting as discovering new sounds of his own generation. Influenced by the Wu-Tang Clan, Notorious B.I.G., and Jay-Z, Gilfillian burst onto the scene in 2020 with his debut album, Black Hole Rainbow, which received glowing reviews from NPR, the New York Times, and many other outlets, and later that year, he was named one of the top 10 artists on the Gilfillian remade Marvin Gaye's classic "What's Going On" to raise funds for low-income communities of color and for resources and education around the democratic process. Also released on vinyl.
