A deluxe edition of *Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus*, another classic album by Vince Guaraldi—best known for the soundtrack to *Snoopy’s Merry Christmas*—is now available. This deluxe edition of the Vince Gallardi Trio’s groundbreaking 1962 album—which includes the Grammy-winning track “Cast Your Fate to the Wind” (No. 22 on the U.S. charts)—features 16 bonus tracks, including 12 previously unreleased recordings. Recorded at Plangent Processes and remastered by Paul Blakemore. Includes detailed new liner notes by jazz writer Andrew Gilbert (San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, KQED Arts). Even without the song “Cast Your Fate to the Wind,” which reached No. 22 on the U.S. singles chart, the Gallardi Trio’s 1962 album *Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus* was a groundbreaking achievement that introduced a trio with a uniquely captivating sound. This album is a groundbreaking work that introduced the trio’s unique and captivating sound, highlighting the group’s distinctive characteristics through a combination of refined lyricism, rhythmic subtlety, and exquisite dynamic control. Galaridi was not the first American jazz artist to venture into Brazilian popular music, but this work heralded the jazz scene’s widespread, unprecedented, and enduring embrace of bossa nova (Portuguese for “new thing” or “new wave”). The film *Orpheu Negro* (Black Orpheus), which won the Palme d’Or at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1960, caught the attention of countless jazz musicians and captivated Guaraldi as well. The LP master was cut by Kevin Gray of Coherent Audio and pressed onto 180g heavyweight LPs at RTI.
