Up-and-coming Colombian producer Ella Minus releases her new album "DIA"! The up-and-coming Colombian producer Ella Minus is releasing her long-awaited new album "DIA" on Domino, her second album following her debut album "acts of rebellion" released in 2020. While "acts of rebellion" dared to create a minimal club sound, "acts of rebellion" combines cutting-edge production and overwhelming sounds with her own introspective self-exploration, and through its expansive soundscape, her evolution as an artist can be felt even more clearly. After three years of collecting song fragments while touring her native Colombia, Mexico, North America, and Europe, she once felt that the album was complete at that point. However, when she looked back on her debut album, she realized that the lyrics did not fully express her inner self, and from there she decided to pursue deeper self-expression. She then changed the stage of production, working in places such as the Mojave Desert in California, a hotel in Los Angeles, New York City, the suburbs of Seattle, Mexico City, and London. Working in different places at different points in time, she was inspired to reflect on herself and her life. One night while working in a cabin in the mountains of Mexico, she discovered the chords that set the album in motion, which she traced to the long, rich sound of "ABRIR MONTE," the opening track of "DIA. She says, "'Abrir monte' is a phrase commonly used where I come from, referring to the opening of a path through dense vegetation. I loved this poetic expression. Making this record was like opening up new internal and external pathways, going even deeper into unexplored territory." The new song "BROKEN" is another song born from those same chords, with bright synthesizers and layered sounds. The song eventually develops into an anthem-worthy four-strike rhythm. The song is about acknowledging suffering and the power to overcome it. Ella recalls her feelings during the creation of the song, "When I started writing this song, I thought everything was fine, but by the time I finished it, I knew I was not. BROKEN" is the follow-up to "COMBAT," which was released prior to the album's release, and is an engaging and immersive song that conveys the importance of standing up and not giving up. DIA" is a work shaped through a process of self-discovery and poses the question of where to go forward after being broken.The entire album was mixed by Grammy-nominated Marta Saroni, who has also worked with Bjork and Depeche Mode, and mastered by Heba Kadri, who has remastered works by Bjork, Bon Iver, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. The album is a perfect blend of Ella's appealing pop accessibility and experimental approach. This work marks the next phase of Ella's career and life as a musician, and breaks new ground without defining its direction.
