Italian mezzo- soprano Anna Bonitativus’s third solo album for Sonik Classical is a two-disc collection of arias from the 18th and 19th centuries centered on Semiramis, the legendary queen of Assyria in the Kingdom of Babylonia around 1200 B.C. Semiramis, the legendary queen of Assyria in the Babylonian Kingdom around 1200 BCE, is said to have commissioned the construction of the “Hanging Gardens of Babylon.” Though renowned for her beauty, she is believed to have poisoned her husband, King Ninus. Numerous composers have created operas based on the story of Semiramis, the most famous of which is Rossini’s *Semiramide* (1823). This album features arias from operas based on the story of Semiramide, ranging from 18th-century composers such as John Melli, Caldara, and Porpora to 19th-century composers like Meyerbeer, Rossini, and García; many of these recordings are world premieres. The album offers fascinating insights into how the material evolved across different eras and composers’ styles. With her flawless vocal control, this album allows listeners to fully appreciate Anna Bonitativus’s charm and talent from many angles. Born in the Basilicata region of Italy, she began her musical studies at age 9 and earned diplomas in piano and voice with top honors. A frequent prize winner at international competitions, she has devoted herself to researching vocal techniques from the 18th century through the bel canto era and expanding her repertoire. To date, she has performed in over 50 different opera titles, continually expanding her repertoire. She has performed at renowned opera houses across Europe and in concert halls around the world. In addition to major operas by Mozart and Rossini, she frequently appears in opera buffa and French opera. Among the roles in which she excels, she has received particularly high acclaim for her performances as Cinderella in Rossini’s *Cenerentola* and as Cherubino in Mozart’s *The Marriage of Figaro*, roles for which she is considered indispensable. In recent years, she has appeared in numerous Baroque operas, earning high praise for her “outstanding technique and expressiveness” and her “powerful voice with a rich resonance.” Sony Music
