A Fresh Breeze Blowing Through Leipzig: “Carmina Burana” by Christian Järvi, the New Music Director of the Prestigious MDR Symphony Orchestra Christian Järvi (the second son of Neeme Järvi and younger brother of Paavo Järvi) has been appointed music director of the MDR Symphony Orchestra, effective this season. To commemorate this, their first recording together has already been released (the piece is also scheduled to be performed at his inaugural concert on September 15). In addition to his position with the MDR Symphony Orchestra, Christian serves as artistic advisor to the Basel Chamber Orchestra and and serves as music director of the Absolute Ensemble in New York. Known for his innovative programming and active engagement with contemporary music, he is one of the most talked-about conductors today; he released an album of Arvo Pärt’s works on Sony Classical in 2010. “Carmina Burana” is a grand epic that depicts the love and lives of people who lived in the Middle Ages through its unconventional rhythms and wild, dynamic energy. Under Christian’s baton, the prestigious MDR Symphony Orchestra is being revitalized, and we can look forward to a performance of “Carmina Burana” unlike anything anyone has ever heard before.
