Perlman’s first solo album in a long time. Perlman had already taken an interest in klezmer music in 1995–96 and recorded an album with EMI. This new release serves as a follow-up to that project, featuring world-renowned singer Itzhak Meir Helfgott, who is active as a leader in the revival of traditional Jewish liturgical music. He made his debut at the age of 23 and is now a singer of immense popularity among the Jewish community. You’ll be captivated by his beautiful, lyrical tenor voice as he performs Yiddish operas, psalms, and folk songs—all deeply cherished by the Jewish people. While Richard Tucker and Jean Pierce, who were active in the 1950s and 1960s, sang these works accompanied by large orchestras, here—with Perlman and a small klezmer band—you can hear the heartfelt cries of the Jewish people.
