Formed in Switzerland in 1984, the "Carmina Quartet" is a world-leading quartet that combines a finely honed expressiveness, astonishing perfection, and unparalleled musicianship, having studied with S. Weg, the Amadeus String Quartet, and the LaSalle String Quartet, among others. Their encounter with Arnoncourt brought them a strong creative interest in authentic old music techniques, which they have incorporated into their performances. They have also performed with Mitsuko Uchida, Emmanuelle Payu, Truls Mørk, Zabine Meyer, and others. Their series released by DENON has also received the highest acclaim from the British Gramophone Awards, the French Diapason d'Or, and the French Le Monde de la Musique magazine. They have won numerous awards, including the German Critics Award, and were nominated for a Grammy Award.This album was their first recording for Sony Classical, and is a re-release in the standard CD format from the SACD version released in 2009 under the product number "88697461172" (discontinued). The two Haydn pieces as The two movements of the "Serenade" are performed with the addition of a guitar. Boccherini's "Fandango" is a well-known work, and although "Night Music in the Streets of Madrid" is usually known as a string quintet, here it is performed in its original guitar quintet version. Not to be missed on guitar is the participation of lute and guitarist Rolf Lislevan, who has competed with Savard on many occasions on classical guitar. Sony Music
