A unique album that will amaze you with the expressive power of the genius accordionist. Sarajevo, a city that has been at the mercy of great powers since the 17th century, this year marks the 30th anniversary of the end of the Bosnia-Herzegovina conflict. The performer of this album, Goran Stevanovic, was born in Bosnia-Herzegovina and experienced the conflict as a child. This is a very elaborate album, created by reflecting on the history of Sarajevo and with a wish for peace. In order to play accordion duets by himself, Stevanovic took the reed box part of an old accordion and fixed it on a stand so that he could play it with his mouth, creating a unique sound. The pieces on the album range from Bartók to his own compositions, and the variety of sounds is astonishing, from Max Richter's melancholic and beautiful "Sarajevo" at the beginning of the album to Blythe Dessner's "Home Road," which brings the album to a close. Dessner's "Home Road" is a sharp and powerful piece made famous by the Kronos Quartet. It was followed by an elaborate reading of Heine's poem "Asra". The binding is in digipack format, and the booklet (English & German, 16 pages) includes a commentary by Tom R. Schulz, spokesman for the Erb Philharmonie (Hall) in Hamburg.
