Description:
Two 180-gram LPs in facing jackets! The complete Bach oboe concertos, musicologically reconstructed by one of Germany's finest oboe players and an ensemble specializing in Bach's music. Born in Berlin in 1931, Hans-Joachim Bach studied recorder and piano before switching to the oboe in his mid-teens. He studied with Hans Werner Wetzig at the German Music Academy in Berlin, won the first prize at the wind instrument competition at the University of the Democratic Republic of Germany in 1963, passed the national examinations in 1965, was a trainee at the Berlin Music Academy for one year, and was principal oboist of the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra for 16 years, from 1966 to 1982. From 1966 to 1982, he was principal oboist of the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he supported Herbert Koegel and others. In the meantime, he began teaching oboe at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Music Academy in 1969, becoming professor in 1982, and in 1992 he was appointed professor of oboe at the Berlin University of the Arts. He has a wide repertoire, with more than 100 premieres of contemporary works. He was also an early and enthusiastic advocate of Baroque music, and in 1983 he founded "I Solisti Instrumentali Leipzig".He was also music director of the chamber orchestra "Neues Bach Collegium Musikum" from 1988 to 2003.
