Description:

The famous "Bull 5" performance from about a year before his death is finally available in new analog form! Over 80 minutes of a massive performance with a sense of balance and a boldness that comes at you from the front! Excellent recording, mastered only in the analog domain, the original master used for the SACD release in 2020, was used for the LP release. Limited quantity available. The first LP reissue of ETERNA's original analog tapes in Japan. The "Bruckner Symphony No. 5" was reissued as an LP, this time in analog format, using the same DSD master as the base source. The original analog master tapes were carefully stored in Japan and mastered only in the analog domain, and then directly converted to DSD.Pressed by Optimal Media in Germany, it will be released as a double LP set of 180g weight vinyl. Although recorded in 1961, this is an astonishing Bruckner performance that reigns supreme even today. The grandeur and scale of the performance, which is unparalleled in other performances of the same period, and the solid expressiveness with which the musicians delve into the music's ideas, are among the best in our time. Since the performance time of "No. 5" exceeds 80 minutes, it has been released as a 2-disc set in the CD era, but this time it has been recorded on a single disc. The wide dynamic range of the Bruckner performance is suitable for reissue in high sound quality, and the dynamic expression that is the special characteristic of this sound source is overwhelming. This is the world's first SACD recording of this superlative performance, and it has been beautifully renewed. The tempo is slow for a performance of the time, and there is no rushed scene. It is a performance that is so slow and yet never relaxed that it can be considered a modern interpretation.Prior to the 1970s, when Bruckner's music was the subject of much research, some of the performances were old-fashioned, and there were few well-thought-out interpretations such as the one in this performance. However, Konwitschny's performance of the "No. 5" was highly acclaimed along with Jochum's in the early days of stereo music, perhaps because of his good affinity with the "No. 5". It is said that Takashi Asahina said before his death that he wanted to conduct like Konwitschny, and whether or not he heard this performance of "No. 5," we can hear a certain similarity in this magnificent performance. The orchestra's sound is not restrained, and while it is played with great vigor, the composition and balance in various parts are finely tuned, yet the solid form that is so important to this piece is never lost. Convitny's performance shines even among the many recordings of the Bruckner No. 5 that are now available due to the current Bruckner boom. The recording is superb, and Streuben's craftsmanship is an important element of this great performance of great scale. (1/2)
