Description:

Four superb Haydns recorded in 1967 by the acclaimed Jochum & SKD and two by Neumann, Switner & LGO are coupled. New reissue from the original ETERNA analog tapes in Japan. World's first SACD release! Mastered only in the analog domain and converted directly to DSD! The latest reissue of the original ETERNA analog tapes in Japan The 17th SACD hybridization of the Jochum and Staatskapelle Dresden recordings are the complete Bruckner symphonies recorded in 1975-80 as a joint production by EMI and ETERNA (Tower project disc TDSA60 in 2017. reissued as a SACD hybrid disc: out of print) are well known, but these recordings were made at once by ETERNA in November 1967. The Zalomon set with the London Philharmonic recorded by DG from 1971 to 1973 is very famous, so this disc may not be so well known. The DG recording was also the first to use the Landon version, which was the most recent at the time, and it was also the first to be recorded in a cohesive set, which is why it attracted so much attention. However, although these recordings with SKD use the same version as before, Jochum's typical dynamism and fluidity are well balanced, and the real pleasure of listening to Haydn is not only comparable to the DG recordings, but the tone quality of the SKD recordings, especially of the string instruments, is not inferior. The recording was done by C. Strubben, a master engineer and one of the greatest treasures of East Germany. The reissue from the original analog master tapes in the original country of origin has improved the resolution and freshness of the recording dramatically over the previous imported CDs, allowing the listener to better appreciate the atmosphere of the SKD at that time and Jochum's fluid conducting. The later Bruckner recordings showed glimpses of otherworldliness, but this Haydn performance shows that the two orchestras are well matched, and it also gives us a sense of the style and prestige of Haydn playing by the Austrian-German orchestra. It is hard to believe that the Haydn performance has been buried until now, and we hope you will enjoy it in the revived sound quality. (1/2)
