Born in Cologne in 1955, Korstic began playing the piano at the age of nine, and only two years later, at the age of eleven, he won the first prize at a competition held in his hometown of Cologne. He studied with Hans Reigraf, Tatiana Nikolaeva, and other famous pianists, and in 1983 began a full-fledged performance career based in Germany. Since then, he has been active at the forefront of the world. In 2023, the 40th anniversary of his performing career, the 68-year-old Korstik will make a recording of Brahms in his full glory. Korstic is well known for his careful music making.The performance is nothing short of superb, with the orchestra playing Brahms' imposing heavy notes with great power, and the tone shining through on the poetic phrases.
