An album featuring the Mass “Grant Us Peace” and Symphonic Music No. 2 by 20th-century German composer Josef Suder (1892–1980). Suder studied at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts beginning in 1911. His major works include Symphonic Music, Chamber Symphony, the opera *Even a Horse Needs a Costume*, and the Mass “Grant Us Peace.” The Mass “Grant Us Peace” can be seen as a complement to the works of composers ranging from J.S. Bach to Bruckner; it is a beautiful, festive Mass that combines strict counterpoint with a color palette reminiscent of the Romantic era. Suder did not compose large-scale symphonies. He composed the Chamber Symphony in A major in 1925, achieving international success with this work. Subsequently, he composed Symphonic Music No. 1 in 1941 and Symphonic Music No. 2—included on this album—in 1963. This work can be described as a new form of symphony that emerged in the 20th century; the Second is structured as “Moderato—Allegro molto”–“Adagio”–“Finale.
