The world's classical music fans were saddened by the news of the sudden death of the famous Luxembourg-born cellist Françoise Groben on May 28, 2011, when she was in her mid-40s. She has performed with orchestras such as the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Georgian Chamber Orchestra, Zurich Chamber Orchestra, Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Daniel Harding, Mstislav Rostropovich, and many others, He has performed as a soloist with renowned conductors such as Daniel Harding, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Evgeny Svetlanov. He is also known as a virtuoso chamber musician, having played cello in the Zoetmaier Quartet, in which Thomas Zoetmaier played first violin from 1997 to 2003. The six-CD box titled "In Memoriam" contains many live recordings of premiere recordings of concertos from the 20th century and other works that demonstrate the breadth of the repertoire.Grosven was also known for his active performance of works by his own country's composers, especially those by female composers. His passionate performances continue to be loved even now, 10 years after his death.
