Every number is moving! Beethoven's "Dedication Ceremony" is famous only for its overture, and the music for the play itself has not been heard very often due to the fact that it was appropriated from his old work "The Ruins of Athens. However, the overture, Beethoven's last purely orchestral work, is musically substantial, as indicated by the work number between "Missa solemnis" and the 9th, and many people may have wanted to savor the play itself. Karl Meissl's play "The Dedication Ceremony" was performed with music by Beethoven in October 1822 at the Persimmon Falls Theater in Josefstadt. Because of the urgency of the request, Beethoven used the music from "The Ruins of Athens," but wrote a new choral dance and march for the parts for which there was no appropriate music other than the overture. This recording was made live at a performance in Potsdam on November 19, 2021, and the audience was so enthusiastic that it was captured on a separate track for about a minute. It is a reminder of Beethoven's greatness. Conductor Fabian Enders, born in 1986, is a remarkable German conductor.The orchestra is highly acclaimed for its religious works by Bach and Bruckner, but even in dramatic music, its skillful handling of solo voices and choruses makes for a compelling performance.
