A welcome reissue to coincide with the Beethoven Year 2020. The Stuttgart Bach Collegium, led by maestro Helmut Rilling, and the Stuttgart Gehinger Kantorei recorded the “Missa Solemnis,” the Mass in C Major, and the oratorio *Christ on the Mount of Olives*, originally recorded in the 1990s by the Stuttgart Bach Collegium and the Stuttgart Gehinger Kantlei under the direction of the master conductor Helmut Rilling, are being reissued as a set. Rilling, renowned as a choral conductor of sacred music, offers a meticulous interpretation down to each individual voice part—a quality that continues to garner high praise to this day. The oratorio *Christ on the Mount of Olives* is a work for three soloists, chorus, and orchestra, depicting Christ’s prayer on the Mount of Olives and the scene of his arrest by soldiers.
