Description:
World premiere recording. The first piano version of "Tokyo Story" first heard by Yasujiro Ozu, the first joint production between King International and Profil labels. Recorded in Tokyo by King International and manufactured and released worldwide in Germany by Profil. This is the world premiere recording of the entire piece, a perfect attempt by overseas-based Miki Aoki to play the music of Ozu films, which are extremely popular in Europe and in great demand overseas. Takajun Saito (1924-2004) was a composer under Kiyoshi Nobutoki. In his later life, he was active in the world of brass band music, serving as the head of the Air Self-Defense Force Central Band and the Metropolitan Police Department Band, but above all, he is known for his contribution to the formation of Ozu's artistic style by composing music for films by Yasujiro Ozu, from "Tokyo Story" to "The Taste of Autumn Fishes". Saito is said to have first played each number he wrote for piano to Yasujiro Ozu, asking him about the pros and cons. The draft was discovered by the bereaved family in 2015. This is the world premiere recording of sounds never heard before except by director Ozu.The director is said to have told Saito, "Keep the score, it will come in handy one day," a prediction that came true 50 years later. Included, of course, are the fast-paced "Saselecia" and the polka from "The Taste of Autumn Fishes," used in a commercial for a certain non-alcoholic beverage. Both are surprisingly effective and beautiful piano pieces. In addition to Ozu's film works, beautiful piano pieces by Kojun Saito are also collected. The "Three Jewels," which is often used for study purposes, and many other attractive pieces that showcase the composer's talent as a melody maker. We also found the composer's own piano arrangement of his masterpiece in the field of brass band music, the march "Blue Impulse. This one has been made into a technical and brilliant piano piece. Miki Aoki was born in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to England at the age of 9, making her concerto debut at the Festival Hall in London at the age of 12. After graduating from the Purcell School in England, she moved to the U.S., where she studied at Indiana University and Yale University Graduate School of Music, and graduated at the top of her class from the Hamburg University of Music's Performing Arts Course. He studied with Georges Chebeck, Boris Berman, and Evgeny Korolyov. He has also taught in Hamburg, Lausanne, and Graz, and as of 2018 is based in New York City, where he is expanding his performing activities. King International
