Super inspiring. Gerd Schaller, who recorded Bruckner's entire symphony as a conductor as well as the entire organ cycle as an organist, has completed Bruckner's 9th symphony himself. Schaller, who loves and knows Bruckner's music better than anyone else, has completed the unfinished 9th Symphony himself and presented it to the world. Schaller went back to the earliest sketches, comparing and contrasting drafts as much as possible to eliminate the gaps in the current version, and after finding a methodology in the recording of 11 symphonies, he completed the work using Bruckner's compositional techniques and language to fill in the missing parts. The additions are not disconcerting, and the style is coherent and distinctly Brucknerian. The new finale is about 25 minutes long. It is so convincing and moving that one can only think that this is the true form of the last movement of No. 9. Now that such a four-movement version has been created, it has the potential to become an important repertoire piece. Gerd Schaller was born in Bamberg in 1965.He began his conducting career in 1993 at the Hanover State Opera, and was General Music Director of the Braunschweig State Opera in 1998 and of the Magdeburg Theater from 2003 to 2006.
