Description:
Includes many of Rilling's masterpieces! A 4-CD set of Haydn's 8 masterpieces from the Haydn Mass is now available! The German Hensler label presents a 4-CD set of 8 of Haydn's masterpieces, 6 of which are performed by the master conductor Rilling! The set includes "The Mass of Deep Sorrows," which includes a quotation from Mozart's "Requiem," and "The Creation Mass," which borrows in two places an idea from Haydn's oratorio "The Creation. Also included is "Harmonie Mass," written in 1802, which was so well orchestrated that the woodwinds (derived from the Harmonie Musik) play a prominent role, and thus Haydn's last Mass, so named in later years, and "Mass of Praise for Saint Bernard of Offida," in honor of Saint Bernard! Rilling's performance features the familiar soloists Rubens and Danz, as well as the two different character handpieces from Stuttgart and Oregon.
