Description:
Boris Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, a work of rare and moving emotion, is finally available on the Picaizen and Kondrashin recordings. Both works were written for the former Soviet Union virtuoso Victor Pikaizen, and although there is a relatively recent recording of the concerto performed solo by Pikaizen with the Odense Symphony Orchestra conducted by Serov, this is an amazing recording of the concerto with Kondrashin and the Moscow Philharmonic. This is a relatively new recording of the concerto, but this one with Kondrashin and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra is too good to be true. It is one of Boris Tchaikovsky's masterpieces, a single movement of nearly 40 minutes in length, said to be in memory of his father who died early in life. Pichaizen's solo performance is full of terrific spirit, and Kondrashin's accompaniment is very moving, creating a divine drama. It seems impossible to reproduce such a terrific performance.The composer himself accompanies in the violin sonata of the coupling, and he is a very virtuoso performer, and his exquisite skill is intoxicating, as is the solo performance by Pichaisen.
