The Salzburg Festival’s New Production of the Da Ponte Trilogy *Don Giovanni*, in Which D’Arcangelo’s Charisma Shone Brightly Reissue of BD:20.72734 (out of print). A series of consecutive performances of the Da Ponte Trilogy, directed by Sven-Erik Bechtolf, as part of the Salzburg Festival’s new production series launched in 2013. Following the 2013 production of *Cosi fan tutte*, *Don Giovanni* was staged in 2014. Ildebrando d’Arcangelo’s Don Giovanni commands an overwhelming presence in this performance. D’Arcangelo is currently one of the world’s most popular bass-baritones. D’Arcangelo has sung the role of Don Giovanni numerous times, captivating audiences with his rich, resonant voice, lustrous tone, and outstanding acting skills. Sven-Eckhard Bechtolf’s production sets the secret trysts in a hotel; while the time period has been reinterpreted, the staging feels natural and authentic. The rest of the cast is also outstanding: Luca Pisaroni, appearing here for the second time following his role in *Cosi*, delivers a fine performance with a light, witty, and seductive voice. Anette Fritsch, though still in her twenties, possesses a dramatic vocal tone. The cast is centered on young artists, including Thomas Konečny, who showcased a powerful voice in his confrontation with Don Giovanni; the casting is perfectly suited to the roles and makes for a truly rewarding listening experience.
