Mozart (1756-1791)

Description:

The Vienna version of "Don Giovanni" in the dense forest at the Salzburg Festival, brilliantly directed by Guth. With Japanese subtitles! Don Giovanni," the second installment of Klaus Guth's Da Ponte trilogy at the Salzburg Festival, is now also available on Blu-Ray. The setting is in a dense, dark forest. Don Giovanni, usually portrayed as a cool seducer, is badly wounded by a bullet in a fight with a knight captain at the beginning of the film and suffers throughout. Donna Anna, on the other hand, is a person who has a secret affair with Don Giovanni but tries to hide it by even lying to Don Ottavio. Zerlina is more than a little devil, she is a devilish woman, and in the Vienna version's double act of tying up Leporello, she seems to be enjoying her torment. In the wildness of the forest, Goutte seems to be trying to open the inner nature of the characters' rationality. The play ends with a descent into hell. Don Giovanni is the English baritone Maltman. He impressively plays the unique title role of being in constant pain. Leporello is Schrott, a handsome bass from Uruguay. The thuggish Leporello is a perfect fit. Also in the cast are Donna Anna of Dasch, a popular German soprano; Don Ottervio of Polenzani, an American tenor who also performs at the Met; Donna Elvira of Reschmann, a very popular Mozart soprano; and Gilda, a Russian native who had great success in London in "Rigoletto" with Zerlina of Schulina, Mazetto of Esposito, who sang Figaro in Guth's production of "The Marriage of Figaro" in Japan, and the bass heavyweight, Knight-Chief Kocherga, are of the highest contemporary standard. The clear Blu-Ray image makes the performance even more enjoyable. King International
