The Life of the Genius Charlie Chaplin Comes to the Stage as a Ballet! A popular production by the Leipzig Ballet has been filmed! The Leipzig Ballet’s popular production “Chaplin” has been released on video. It is a work by Mario Schröder, who began his career as a dancer with the Leipzig Ballet before transitioning to choreography. The program has been performed for four seasons since its premiere on October 30, 2010. At the premiere, the standing ovation lasted a full 15 minutes as the audience was thrilled; Geraldine Chaplin, Charlie Chaplin’s daughter, who had been invited to the venue that day, even took the stage to celebrate the success. When it comes to ballets inspired by Chaplin, there is “Dancing Chaplin,” in which the master choreographer Roland Petit choreographed scenes from Chaplin’s classic films for Luigi Bonino; however, this work portrays Chaplin’s life by featuring figures connected to him—including his parents, Mildred, Paulette, and his wives—including Una—to portray the true essence of Chaplin. Featuring a soundtrack curated by Paul Zoller—who also oversees the production design—the ballet incorporates music by John Adams, Barber, Britten, and Chaplin himself, all brought to life through the colorful and dazzling performances of the Leipzig Ballet, renowned for its world-class technical prowess.
