Swan Lake" arranged by Pletnyov & "Carmen" Suite by Sichedrin The long-awaited recording of the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra (RIO), newly founded by Pletnyov in 2022, is now available! In 1990, he founded the Russian National Orchestra (RNO) and has been active as a conductor and music director, not only giving concerts, but also making numerous recordings. In 2022, he founded a new orchestra, the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra (RIO), based in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The orchestra is named after Rachmaninoff, a composer who had to leave his homeland, which Pletnyov had long been influenced by and loved. The orchestra members consist of former members of the RNO and outstanding musicians from the East and West, including from their home countries of Slovakia, Austria, and Ukraine. The recording was made in August 2022 at the Izeth Hall in Mobratislava. The program includes Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" and Sichedrin's "Carmen Suite".Pletnyov recorded a complete version of "Swan Lake" with the RNO in 2009, but this time it is a special edition by Pletnyov, edited into six movements. The music has been selected and arranged by Pletnyov in accordance with the story of "Swan Lake". Beautiful, poetic, and like the magic of a fairy tale, the elegance of its music is exquisitely balanced. Similarly, Sichedrin's "Carmen Suite" was also recorded with RNO (1998), but this new recording with RIO is also noteworthy. Carmen Suite" is the composer's paraphrase of Bizet's masterpiece for strings and percussion for a ballet starring his wife Plisetskaya. It is a dance adaptation of an already well-known masterpiece, with familiar melodies throughout, and an interesting fusion of powerful strings and comical percussion. This is a very promising future performance by Pletnyov and the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra.
