Henri Rice writes, "Discovering Fanny Hensel's dramatic scene 'Hero und Leander' (Hero and Leandros), I was astonished by its richness of color and invention, and its skillful orchestration and dramatic expression." Many of Felix Mendelssohn's sister Fanny's works were published under her brother's name due to the constraints of the 19th century, when it was difficult for a female composer to gain recognition, but in recent years she has been reevaluated as an important composer.The album includes a selection of her lieder in a new arrangement for orchestra, a dramatic scene for soprano and orchestra based on her father's text, "Herault et Leandros," and the introduction and aria from the Hymn Cantata (Lobgesang Cantata) Also included is Felix's famous overture "Fingal's Cave" in the 1830 Roman edition.
