James Ehnes' String Quartet! Beethoven Rush Release Volume 3! With overwhelming acclaim, including "one of the perfect violinists on the planet" (The Daily Telegraph), and a stunning "Best Instrumental Performance" at the 61st Grammy Awards in 2019 for his Violin Concerto by Aaron Jay Kernis (ONYX4189), Canadian Virtuoso violinist James Ehnes. The quartet will be led by virtuoso violinists Richard (Yonge) O'Neill, who joined the prestigious Takács String Quartet in 2020, and Amy Schwartz Moretti, who played a superb duo with Ehnes in the Bartók Duet (CHAN 10820). The recording project planned for the Beethoven Year 2020 was forced to change due to COVID-19, and the recording in the UK was abandoned.Instead, the recording was done in the U.S., and the sessions were monitored in real time from London by renowned British recording producer Simon Kiln (who has been involved in over 400 recordings for many labels and is also responsible for Ehnes's major albums). In two weeks, he recorded all of Beethoven's string quartets from Op. 74 onward. Volume 3 contains the last two quartets from the "middle" rather than strictly "late" period, the cheerful and lovely E-flat major work called "Harp" and the harsh and caustic F minor work called "Serioso (Solemn)".
