James Ehnes New Recording! Ysaÿe's Unaccompanied Violin Sonata!2019 Grammy Award-winning Canadian violin prodigy James Ehnes! Ysaÿe's Sonata for Solo Violin recorded at his home during lockdown! Canadian violinist James Ehnes has received overwhelming acclaim, including "one of the perfect violinists on the planet" (The Daily Telegraph), and won the "Best Instrumental Music" award at the 61st Grammy Awards in 2019 for his Violin Concerto (ONYX4189) by Aaron Jay Kernis. Canadian virtuoso violinist James Ehnes. In March of 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown, Ehnes launched his own online concert project, titled "Recitals from Home," in which he sequentially released six unaccompanied violin works by Bach and Ysaÿe.Although he recorded Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin more than 20 years ago (AN28772-3), this is surprisingly his first recording of Ysaye's Sonatas for Solo Violin, and here we have a complete recording of Op. 27 from No. 1 to No. 6. With the help of friends and recording professionals from around the world, Ehnes set up the equipment and transformed his living room into a recording studio, and the quality of the recordings is astonishingly better than expected. The quality of the recordings was beyond anything we could have imagined. The recording was made in the wee hours of the morning to avoid noise, and the extraordinary virtuosity of the recording team has produced a powerful and precise recording of Ysaye's unaccompanied sonata, the most important extension of Bach's "Scripture".
