Simon Trpceski, who performs the "solo piano version" of "Scheherazade," was born in 1979 in Macedonia, the former Yugoslavia, and is a pianist who has spread his wings from Macedonia to the rest of the world. In addition to major orchestras in Europe and the United States, he has performed with orchestras in Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand, making him a truly worldwide performer. He has frequently performed in Japan, and in July 2019, he toured Tokyo, Osaka, Ehime, and Tottori with the NHK Symphony Orchestra to great success with a stunning performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2.On the Onyx label, Vasily Petrenko & the After releasing Tchaikovsky (ONYX 4135) and Prokofiev (ONYX 4140) with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Trpceski finally made a solo recording for Onyx as well. The featured program is a collection of Russian piano works based on folk tales and folklore, titled "Tales from Russia.Beginning with Prokofiev's unusual solo piano piece "The Story of an Old Grandmother," the album features rare solo piano versions from famous orchestral works such as Mussorgsky's "One Night on Bald Mountain" and Rimsky=Korsakov's "Sheerazade.
