The concerto recording is a "French Program" of Lalo, Berlioz, and Saint-Saëns, and features the "Cello Concerto" by Spanish-French composer Edouard Lalo (1823-1892), a rarity in the Whisperway repertoire.Following "Violin Concerto No. 1" and "Spanish Symphony," Lalo completed the "Cello Concerto" in 1877 at the age of 54, and it is a masterpiece full of color and passion from his Spanish roots. ■ And coupled with Lalo is the "Cello Concerto No. 2," composed in 1902 by his contemporary Saint-Saëns.
