The second volume of ONYX by the "trio" of cellist extraordinaire Peter Wispelway, the famous gut-stringed instrument Guadagnini, and the virtuoso Giacometti is "Chopin & Mendelssohn The second ONYX album is "Chopin & Mendelssohn"! Whisperway has included in the same program as the great "Cello Sonatas" by Chopin and Mendelssohn, a brilliant arrangement by Carl Davidoff (1838-1889) of Chopin's " Cello version" of Chopin's "Waltzes, Op. 64" in a brilliant arrangement by Carl Davidoff (1838-1889). In 2000, Whisperway recorded Chopin's "Cello Waltzes Vol. 1" (CCS 16298), but the three pieces from Op. 64, including the "Puppy Waltz," were not included in that recording, so the long-awaited new recording is a welcome development.Chopin and Mendelssohn, for which Whisperway and Giacometti had the perfect environment in terms of instruments used, conditions, and recording venue.
