Following his highly acclaimed and much-talked-about previous release—the complete set of Debussy’s Preludes, which not only featured elegant performances but also fit the entire collection onto a single disc—this is Pascal Rogé’s second release on the ONYX label! This collection of piano trios by Ravel and Chausson was recorded and produced to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Chausson’s birth in 2005. Roger won a Gramophone Award in 1997 for his collection of Ravel’s chamber music works and has an impressive track record in chamber music, a genre to which he devotes as much energy as his solo career! Roger formed a piano trio with Mie Kobayashi and Yoko Hasegawa in 1995 to mark the 150th anniversary of Fauré’s birth. The trio of Roger, Kobayashi, and Hasegawa has previously performed in Japan, and their performances have been met with rave reviews. Violinist Mie Kobayashi is the 1990 winner of the Long-Thibaud International Competition, and cellist Yoko Hasegawa is a recipient of a Special Prize at the Rostropovich International Cello Competition—both are promising young Japanese female musicians. This album marks the 10th anniversary of the piano trio’s formation.
