The brilliant Roman Mintz explores Jewish memory and identity! A deeply personal album centered on the ancient prayer “Kol Nidre”! A new recording by violinist Roman Mintz, hailed as one of the most outstanding and original musicians of his generation! Centered on the ancient prayer for forgiveness, “Kol Nidre,” this personal album reinterprets Jewish themes through an exploration of personal history, memory, and identity. Most of the material was originally recorded about ten years ago as a birthday gift for his father. However, after commissioning his friend, composer Alexei Kurbatov, to write a new “Kol Nidre,” and with global events and personal life experiences converging, the decision was made to complete it as a full album. The album weaves together John Zorn’s “Kol Nidre” for string quartet, works by Ernest Bloch, music by the politically persecuted Alexander Veprik and the forgotten Mikhail Eldenko, as well as new compositions by contemporary composers Elena Langer and Kurbatov. Roman Mintz is a violinist originally from Russia who is based in London. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music and other institutions, and has earned high acclaim for his original and adventurous programming. In addition to his activities as a performer, he has demonstrated his skills as a producer for the British Quartz label, leading the production of numerous recordings, including his own projects. He is also dedicated to founding music festivals and mentoring the next generation at institutions such as Trinity Laban. A highly versatile musician, he plays a Francesco Ruggeri violin dating from around 1685. Tokyo M Plus
