Starker: Paris Live 1969–1978 The Brahms Double Concerto featuring Ferras is also making its debut! This release of Brahms’s Double Concerto featuring Ferras comes from the long-awaited official recording. Since Ferras retired in 1970, this recording captures the very last performances of his peak period, showcasing a truly magnificent clash of youthful passion between the two artists. Additionally, the conductor, Charles Bruck, is a true exemplar of the art of conducting. Born in 1911 in Timișoara, Romania (then part of the Habsburg Empire), he moved to Paris in 1928 to study under Montu. In 1965, he became principal conductor of the French National Radio Philharmonic, but five years later, he was suddenly dismissed for “focusing too much on contemporary music”—a man of unyielding character who devoted himself to modern works. The other conductor, Albert Rosen, also faced immense hardships. Born in Vienna in 1924, he managed to escape to Israel in 1941 during the war to flee persecution as a Jew, where he engaged in manual labor at a kibbutz (a settlement combining Zionism and socialism). After the war, he returned to Vienna to study under Swarovski, became chief conductor of the Smetana Theatre in Prague, and in 1969, seeking new horizons, became chief conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, eventually naturalizing as an Irish citizen—a true wanderer. On this album, the accompaniment by these two hardworking conductors supporting the two brilliant soloists is not to be missed. SPECTRUMSOUND
