The Gonzaga family was a noble house that ruled Mantua for 400 years and served as patrons of the arts and culture. It was the Gonzaga family that appointed Monteverdi as court composer and staged the premiere of *L’Orfeo*. This album features a collection of lute pieces selected from their collection. In addition to the original lute pieces, the album includes arrangements of art songs and madrigals, giving it significant historical value. The recording quality is excellent, and the result is an album that can be enjoyed even by those who are not fans of early music; I highly recommend it to a wide audience. Massimo Marchesi (lute): A lute and theorbo player born in Savona, Italy, in August 1956. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London and was a student of Jakob Lindberg. He has performed with numerous renowned musicians, including Nigel Rogers, Julio Zannasi, Enrico Gatti, and Jakob Lindberg. He has already released many CDs, both as a soloist and in ensembles. He has been appointed professor at the Alessandria Conservatory and is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of musicians. Tobu Shoji Co., Ltd.
