German Clarinet Sonatas This CD contains the clarinet sonatas of the Romantic period, including the clarinet sonata by Mendelssohn in 1824, when he was 15 years old. The sonatas are so full and rich that it is hard to believe that they were written when Mendelssohn was still a boy, as he was extremely precocious. Franz Danzi (1763-1826) was a cellist and composer of a generation slightly older than Beethoven. He was a very popular and influential musician of his time. His Clarinet Sonata in B flat major was composed in 1818. It is a very fine piece, though it does not have a strong personality. Felix Drezeke (1835-1913) was a German composer from the late 19th to the early 20th century. His Clarinet Sonata in B flat major was composed in 1887. It is good for its gentle and calm style, unrelated to the late Romanticism. Aldo Botta is an Italian clarinetist born in 1994. He is a soloist and currently teaches clarinet at the Cilea Conservatory in Reggio Calabria.
