ThistleSifter is a "cinematic post-rock project" by Pete Barnes, a British musician based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Released in '26, this album is an ambitious work that further expands on his previous musical style and is characterized by a diverse, symphonic sound. Barnes states that at the core of the work lies an examination of the serious problems arising from humanity’s disregard for the natural environment and fellow humans—a result of the relentless pursuit of endless growth. He notes that the eight tracks, all of which were strongly influenced by the writings of authors such as Jay Griffiths, George Monbiot, Omar El Akkad, and Siddharth Kara. The eight tracks delve deeply into themes such as sustainable land use, animal rights, cobalt mining in the Congo, climate change, neoliberalism, and the media’s complicity in genocide. Thematic videos have been created for all of the songs.
