This album is Symphony No. 3 with mezzo-soprano Catriona Morrison as soloist. This is the first recording of Mahler's complete works for this orchestra since 1976-1982 with Wenceslas Neumann. Although Mahler was active in Austria, he was born in the village of Kaliszt near Jihlau in Bohemia, which belonged to the Austrian Empire at that time (now Jihlava, Czech Republic). This recording of the complete works is an important project for the group. Mahler's symphonies express the 'polyphony' of life, and it is a lifelong dream and joy to record these works," says Bishkov. Bishkov brings out the warm and gentle tones of the symphonies to their fullest, giving us a fragrant performance of Mahler's vision of Bohemia. The Symphony No. 3 is a large-scale and extraordinary masterpiece, featuring gorgeous woodwinds and brass reminiscent of Wagner, numerous percussion instruments, solo alto (mezzo-soprano), female chorus, and boys' chorus. The deeply absorbing music of the last movement is one of the most beautiful melodies ever written. The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, recently named Gramophone Orchestra of the Year, has released Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 1, 2, 4, and 5 (2022-2023), Smetana's "My Homeland," and Dvořák's Symphonies Nos. 7, 8, and 9 (2024) on the PENTATONE label. 2024), all recorded under Bishkov.
