Hervé Jurand was the principal horn player of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France (1987-1997) at the young age of 20, and has held the position of principal horn player of the Orchestre National de France since 1997, and of the Sinfonica Toscanini since 2002. As a soloist, he has performed works by Haydn, Mozart, Schumann, Weber, Saint-Saens, Strauss, and Britten with over 125 orchestras. As a chamber musician, he has rubbed shoulders with such virtuosos as Paul Torturier, Vadim Repin, Yuri Bashmet, and Gidon Kremer, and is at the forefront as the proud master of France's wind instrument kingdom. Jurand, who has released 25 albums to date, has taken on the new challenge of compiling a collection of masterpieces from the 19th century Romantic period, when the development of the valve mechanism improved fine passages that had previously been difficult to express and dramatically broadened the range of musical expression.From Beethoven's "Sonata" written for Giovanni Punto, who was widely known as a horn virtuoso, to Schumann's "Adagio and Allegro," an early solo work featuring the advantages of the valved horn, to R.
