A collection of unknown German Baroque sonatas performed by the principal oboe player of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra! Eric Sperrer was born in France in 1971 and won the first prize and a special prize for oboe at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Lyon in 1991. In the same year, he won the first prize at the UFAM International Competition in Paris. He also studied with the famous oboe player Maurice Burg, and after working with the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, he joined the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra in 1997, where he was appointed principal player. He has performed as a soloist in Europe, Asia (including Japan), and South America, and has also given master classes. This album focuses not only on major works but also on lesser-known composers of 18th century Germany, reminding us of the excellence of German Baroque works. In making this recording, Sperrer explored ways to recreate the performance style of the period on modern instruments, meticulously researching ornamentation and articulation to enhance the expressive power of the music.
