One of the leaders of the Turkish popular music "arabesque" scene is Muslyum Gülses (1953-2013), born in Şanlıurfa in southeastern Turkey in 1953, who moved to Adana, a city in south-central Turkey, when he was three years old. Despite the hardships of his life, Muslım experienced various occupations as a young boy, and his love of singing led him to enter a singing contest in 1967, when he was 14 years old, and he was crowned the winner. This led him to appear on a Turkish folk radio program, and he began calling himself "Gülses," meaning "loud voice," from that time on. In 1968, he made his record debut.
