The long-awaited 2024 recording by Julian Shore, a pianist at the forefront of the ongoing New York jazz scene, is the latest in a long-awaited series. This is the second release by the trio with Martin Nevin and Allan Mednard; the previous self-titled album, released in 2023, was the result of an improvisational session that took place after the pandemic lockdown was lifted, but this album, which has evolved over the two years since then, is noteworthy for its The composition is based on the original work, but with new material. The composition consists of the original and three covers of old and new standards (two on the LP), including Ellington's "Blues in Blueprint" and "All the Things You are" (and, on the CD, the Beach Boys' "Don't Talk ( Put YourHead on My Shoulders). The breadth of the song selection suggests the wide range of this work, but the performances are also very interesting. The Ellington number, which updates the beauty of the medium swing and simple melody with sophisticated harmonies; "All the Things You are," which boldly deconstructs the melody while leading and reconstructing the song like a tightrope walker from the original chord progression; (and on the CD and a sense of re-drawing pop numbers into a jazz-like world) are all original. Meanwhile, the original music is also outstanding. The songs Shore wrote for this work are rooted in his own personal experiences and his desire to "let the music speak for itself.
