The Krása Quartet's Debut Album: Seriously Engaging with Musicians Connected to Terezín Includes Works by Ančerl The debut album of the Krása Quartet, formed in 2012. The Krása Quartet is a young ensemble specializing in works by Jewish composers connected to the Terezín concentration camp. Krása's "Theme and Variations" and "String Quartet," which also inspired the ensemble's name, Schulhoff's "Divertimento for String Quartet," and Ančerl's "Two Fugues (Two Student Fugues)" are all works composed during the composers' early careers, before the political turmoil following World War I significantly impacted their lives. Conductor Ančerl studied conducting with Václav Talich at the Prague Conservatory while also learning composition from Alois Hába, a proponent of microtonal music. In these Two Fugues, melodies with striking chromatic motion intertwine like arabesques. Krása Quartet: Formed in 2012 by four young musicians who met at the Prague Conservatory.They gained experience through appearances at music festivals in the Czech Republic and abroad, as well as participation in masterclasses led by renowned ensembles such as the Pavel Haas Quartet and the Hagen Quartet. In addition to classical quartet works by composers like Beethoven, their repertoire extends to 20th-century music, with a particular focus on works by Hans Krása and other composers associated with Terezín. They regularly collaborate with top-tier pianists like Jan Bartos, as well as choirs and dance companies. For several years, they have also performed in the ballet Vertigo at the Prague National Theatre, playing a key role on stage. ANIMAL
